Acting as a summary for the entire album we get a perfect combination of lush production and substance that we’ve grown to love from Kendrick. This song is a bit more aggressive than many of the other songs on this album but rightfully so with the subject matter here. The time personified title of the song adds a bit of foreshadowing here as Lamar walks us slowly into the deep end of generational toxic masculinity over the course of three minutes and 42 seconds. The pace of the song compliments an approach to listening that feels more parallel to listening to an audiobook. Much of this album is complimented by this same listening strategy. Overall the optimal time to listen to this song is during a long car ride.
