Open Source Music

We DESERVE Open Source Music

Copyright law has constrained the music industry. The continual focus on the rights management, administration, and oversight doesn’t align with the open and collaborative nature of internet culture. It’s time to let go of an outdated model and build something new.

Music is begging to be open sourced.

The legal hurdles to sampling, remix, and reuse of music not only limit creativity, but restrict how quickly music can spread as well. Artists who share openly invite collaboration and are able to create with higher velocity. To achieve this at scale, we must shatter music's untouchable aura and reset music culture.

The gaming industry has used a more open source ethos to transform consumers to participants to the benefit of the entire industry. As we enter an era of collaboration on the internet, why not encourage more creative participation around music as well?

The traditional music industry may never be willing to cede control over rights that power the economics of their business. Could this be where Web3 steps up?

If Web3 tech is best used to build infrastructure that facilitates massive global collaboration, music feels like the perfect use case.

Imagine being able to flip music from your favorite artists to contribute to a song’s dynamic history and future. Artists would be able to see the true cultural value of their work. Passive listeners are transformed into co-creators. This is the open, inclusive, immersive web that we want to see.

Our aim is to create a user-generated ecosystem for music that forges a new culture of sharing and collaboration. We support anyone building towards the same future and invite partners on the same mission to join Phlote today.
