About Chapter One

Investment Partner

We are growing our investment team to expand our ability to back and support the best founders in web3. Investment partners will work closely with Jeff and Mene, the existing investment team, and our growing internal full-stack product team, as Chapter One doubles down on being the leading early stage crypto fund. 

Responsibilities of Investment Partner

  • Source deals end-to-end interacting with founders, investors, and builders in web3.
  • Meet entrepreneurs and aspiring founders early in their company building process. Be a strong representative of Chapter One as you are often a founder’s first touchpoint.
  • Evaluate early stage companies with rigorous diligence and research. 
  • Win competitive deals at the earliest stages of company development. Work with the investment team to prepare investment memos, offers and value creation plans for high potential web3 companies.
  • Support existing C1 founders by being an active partner to them and contribute to a best-in-class founder experience.
  • Develop original investing theses around key themes in web3 that inform investing.
  • Build structure with key cross-functional team members and create a roadmap that mirrors product development roadmaps.

Needed Experience

  • Ex-operator and/or founder that has product building experience (preferably in crypto/web3 but not required), whether this is on product, engineering, and/or design. If not operator and/or founder, we’re looking for a meaningful track record investing in crypto.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to build thoughtful communities focused on long-term relationships.
  • Excellent communication: strong writing skills, 1:1 communications, and team discussions. Embodies being a disagreeable giver
  • Ability to analyze empirical and qualitative data to form an opinion on investment decisions and drive these outcomes.
  • Intellectual curiosity: fascinated by new developments in web3 and deep desire to update systems thinking in search of better solutions. 
  • Ability to context switch, manage competing priorities, and prioritize effectively.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity with high agency. 
  • Track record of being proactive and taking ownership over key initiatives.

Preferred Experience

  • Active web3 community contributor: DAO contributions or sharing knowledge on web3 interests.

  • Technical expertise: has experience with coding, tokenomics and/or token design, and can assess strength of technical projects.

  • On-chain identity with experience in NFTs, DeFi, and/or DAOs.

  • Incredibly data-driven, focusing on on-chain analytics and other key data insights.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams that include engineering, design, data science, research.

  • Deeply cares about making web3 more accessible to the masses.

  • Treats investing like building a product. Understands that our firm’s core product is our investing and wants to find a way to get to investing-market fit.


Head of Talent

We are hiring a Head of Talent to help support our portfolio’s hiring needs and to scale the Chapter One team. People are the lifeblood of any successful organization and our Head of Talent will work with the Investment and Founder Experiences teams to bring the best people to our portfolio and to Chapter One.

Responsibilities of Head of Talent

  • Support portfolio with tailored hiring strategy, including playbooks for hiring process, compensation, and talent database.
  • Own sourcing of a high signal talent database for both Chapter One and its portfolio. Must be able to manage a talent pipeline from ideation to execution.
  • Offer talent support across portfolio with cadenced talent updates & mentor portfolio on how to build a successful internal talent team & pipeline.
  • Manage hiring strategy for the Chapter One portfolio and process for Chapter One.
  • Work with the investing team to create a custom hiring plan for prospective companies.
  • Build best practices for helping technical and nontechnical web2 talent break into web3 and execute on this plan.

Needed Experience

  • Meaningful recruiting experience at a major tech company or venture capital firm, preferably in crypto/web3. 
  • Must have managed high signal talent processes before and be experienced with the ins and outs of securing top talent.
  • Critical to understand the talent needs of web3 companies and of their talent profiles as opposed to web2 talent.
  • Skilled at having short and long term time horizons when it comes to talent management. Be able to context switch between hiring for web3 roles today and onboarding into web3 tomorrow.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity with high agency.
  • Track record of being proactive and taking ownership over key initiatives.

Head of Platform and Community

We are hiring a Head of Platform and Community to build a robust Chapter One platform and to help our portfolio cultivate intentional communities. As a venture fund, we are building and contributing to broad networks across web3. Our Head of Platform and Community will work with the Investing and Founder Experience teams to help design and execute systems that best support our founders and the web3 community.

Responsibilities of Head of Platform and Community

Platform:

  • Create scalable playbooks and processes for how to best support web3 founders with go-to-market (GTM) and business development (BD).
  • Support portfolio founders with personalized GTM & BD by leveraging the strength of Chapter One’s platform and network.
  • Work with the investing team to build a community of specialized web3 operators and strategic investors to support our portfolio.

Community:

  • Develop best practices for managing decentralized communities that portfolio founders can use for internal and external community building.
  • Advise portfolio founders on how to best build and curate their communities.
  • Build community across the Chapter One portfolio and find ways for founders to contribute to each other’s success.
  • Plan and execute on educational & social events for our portfolio and the greater web3 community.

Needed Experience

  • Has extensive experience building and managing web3 communities for DAOs or for crypto funds.
  • Understands the unique needs and pain points of cultivating web3 communities.
  • Gets purpose from bringing people together and building communities that are in service of giving, learning, and growing.
  • Has abundant optimism and a growth mindset when it comes to building thoughtful communities.
  • Gritty and hard working personality; always thinking about how to build and improve communities.
  • Meticulous organization in managing existing communities. Strategic thinking in expanding and building new communities. 
  • Meticulous organization of planning fun and engaging events, digitally and physically.

Finance & Operations Analyst

We are hiring a Financial Operations Analyst who will work on various financial and operational Chapter One initiatives. This member will report directly to the CFO and work with other key team members across Finance and Operations pillars. 

Responsibilities of Finance & Operations Analyst

  • Maintain our pipeline of investors and new investment opportunities in Airtable, Affinity, and other tools.
  • Develop detailed, data-driven analyses in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint & Word; present said analyses to team.
  • Venture capital portfolio construction modeling and investment research.
  • Drive process improvements and manage processes around various initiatives.
  • Bespoke financial analyses regarding financial, operational, and investment decisions.
  • Complete ad hoc miscellaneous tasks and projects as assigned.

Needed Experience

  • Demonstrated interest in web3 and finance from academic studies and/or professional experience.
  • Professional experience of 1-3+ years. Financial, accounting, or investment industry preferred (but not required).
  • Proficiency with financial statement analysis, financial modeling, and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint & Word.
  • Effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills; attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter that can manage multiple tasks effectively; strong willingness and desire to learn and grow.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
