Introducing Poseidon DAO

The cryptocurrency ecosystem has continued to evolve over the years at an unprecedented speed, supported by various trends that have shaped its success.

I am first and foremost an investor and then an entrepreneur who, since 2012, has had the opportunity to learn about and become passionate about this ecosystem, first by purchasing the main coins and then by creating my own companies that have been operating in the sector for several years now.

In 2015 I started collecting NFTs, then valued at a few dollars each (such as the collectible cards Spell of Genesis and Force of Will) and in all these years I have continued to purchase non-fungible tokens. Today my collection, which goes by the name Poseidon DAO on major platforms and social media, boasts not only 3000 vintage NFTs on the Bitcoin blockchain - including the above collectible cards - but also more recent works by the world's most famous artists. My perseverance and dedication in buying this particular manifestation of the blockchain is due to the fact that, from my humble perspective, NFTs are the killer app of the blockchain, i.e. that application that can make the technology mainstream in a short period of time.

In particular, over the last year, as liquidity on NFTs has been steadily increasing, the supply of NFTs has increased exponentially. Many large multinational companies have launched their own NFTs in recent months, with great success such as Coca-Cola, Adidas and Nike, but at the same time there has also been an increase in scams or worthless projects. This has made it much more difficult for the average collector to find his way in this sector and thus obtain an assortment of valuable works.

If this last year's growth of the sector may seem to some detractors to be exaggerated and driven by FOMO, I am forced to disagree. In 2022, many more companies will enter this area of blockchain application and they will not only be big companies: gaming and the metaverse will also benefit from each other and many more auction houses will follow the example of Christie's and Sotheby's who have already sold NFTs for millions of dollars.

Introducing Poseidon DAO

With this in mind, I believe it is time for my collection to take advantage of the benefits of decentralization. My purpose is to let my collection to be managed by a DAO - which will keep the name Poseidon DAO (unless the governance decides otherwise) - of artists, curators and collectors. I find it necessary to give voting power to these figures as they are qualified to judge the value of a work, given their experience and knowledge of the sector.

  • The artists who participate in the DAO will not only be able to bring their technical knowledge to the benefit of the DAO system, but will also have the task of selecting new deserving artists who, in addition to enjoying the recognition of the DAO, will also receive feedback from colleagues, collectors and curators before selling their work.
  • Collectors: while until a few years ago large amounts of capital were required to collect works of art, now, thanks to blockchain and its applications, this is no longer strictly necessary (see the case of the DAO created to buy an original copy of the US Constitution which, despite not winning the auction, raised more than 40 million dollars in a short time from thousands of small donors). There is therefore an overcoming of the bourgeois figure of the collector in favour of a democratization -now necessary- on several levels.
  • Curators: just as they are essential in traditional art, the same applies in the case of NFTs. However, their role changes radically: in the NFT sector the value of a curator is given by their skills and knowledge, not by their affiliation with more or less prestigious galleries. The curator's task is to educate collectors through articles and to promote the artists he or she considers worthy using all available tools. The curator effectively provides a service to the community in many forms: from a tweet to a blog article to curating exhibitions or selecting artists who can access particular markets.

In order to bring as much benefit as possible to the DAO, I have decided to make use of the skills and knowledge of the above figures, allowing them to call up the DAO Governance token for free. I myself will supervise this process in order to achieve a fair launch of the token.

The DAO aims not only to manage the Poseidon collection but also to promote artists, already known in the mainstream art world, through not only social support, but also by allowing them direct access to the main marketplaces -such as SuperRare, Foundation and Nifty Gateway- via the Poseidon DAO page.

In order to enhance the value of the collection, we also encourage the creation of derivatives of works in our possession from projects with free rights, such as B.A.Y.C. 5899, Word of Women and others.

In addition, with the support of an important partner in the DeFi world, we will create indexes of works of both individual artists and entire market sectors.

In order to get the community involved in the project, we will be releasing further articles explaining in detail how the DAO works before the launch of the Governance token.
