Music NFTs: An Introduction and Personal Thoughts

Last year, when Beeple’s Everydays was sold for $69 million, I first heard of NFTs. When I initially heard the news, I couldn’t fathom why someone would spend so much for a digital image, or as we all know them, a.jpeg. Curiosity piqued my interest, and I wanted to learn more about this new technology that was gaining traction ( even if we are still early, we can see progression, especially at the start of 2022 ). After spending many hours watching movies, reading articles, and reading blogs about NFTs, I’ve finally understood what they are and how they can and will transform the world. I initially mistook them for .jpegs and didn’t see any future utility for them, but after I realized that they are truly a digital token that represents digital ownership, my mind was flooded with ideas and thoughts about how this ground-breaking technology will transform a variety of industries.

Despite my desire to be active in a variety of industries, I have chosen to focus on and create in the two that I am most enthusiastic about: fashion and music. Because I was focusing on launching and growing my streetwear label, I began to research how a streetwear brand could employ NFT technology. So I started looking into digital fashion and how I might use NFTs to generate exclusivity and access to limited items. Even though my label will debut in mid-2022, it will not use NFTs right away. The concepts have been expressed, and work on them has begun, but because we are only getting started, we want to educate and inform as many people as possible about this technology and how it may benefit them. We will launch an NFT collection, digital fashion, and other projects while we educate them, but only when the time is right.

Music NFTs were first brought to my attention in May or June of last year. I didn’t pay them much attention at first since I was so focused on fashion and other things, even though something in my thoughts clicked anytime I read or heard the words music and NFTs together. I’ve determined in the last several weeks that it’s now time to devote some hours to studying and diving further into this subject. I anticipated that NFTs will revolutionize numerous industries, but I predict that by 2022, Music NFTs will have risen to prominence and become something significant. We can finally give back to our community and reveal its entire potential using NFTs. I’ve always thought that the community is the one that keeps any industry or business alive. There would be no life without a community. Since the beginning, I’ve been a people person and supporter of a community.

Music NFTs are digital collectibles that represent a limited-edition version of music minted on-chain with web3. They do not yet have any masters, royalties, or publishing. To put it another way, they’re similar to tracks on Spotify or Apple Music, only you have a limited number of copies that you may resell.

Isn’t that incredible? When you decide it’s time for a song to leave your playlist, you can enjoy listening to it while still earning money from it.

What I like best about Music NFTs is that they let musicians finally get what they deserve and contribute back to their communities. The time has finally arrived when music labels will not receive all of the royalties and most of the money for each artist’s release. Artists can now be independent, earning fully from their tunes, and allowing their audience to both enjoy and profit from their music. How? Royalties have a lot of power. The thing I like best about NFTs is the royalties, and I believe they will be used in a variety of industries, not just music.

Allow me to offer you an example from the world of music:

I recently released a song and made it available on one of the Web3 providers. I’ve put the price at $100, with a 5% royalty. This means that 5% of each secondary sale will go to me. Alex from the United States admires my work and purchases the tune. I only got $100 this time. After some time, he decides to sell it for $200. He obtains $200 after selling it to Julia, and I receive $10 as a royalty. Then Julia sells it for $250 which means that I receive $12,5.

Aside from the opportunity to earn money by listening to and selling the songs you enjoy, you can also obtain other benefits. For example, I’m releasing a track as NFT, and if you buy it, you’ll get merch, a physical copy of the music, and early access to the next release/private party, among other things. Isn’t that incredible?

Of course, I’m sure you’ve wondered why you should spend money for a track when you can listen to it for free on various streaming platforms. Well, I believe I answered this question in the previous two paragraphs. The benefits of getting music NFT, such as the ability to feel like you’re a member of a community, are among the best things that have arisen in the music industry in recent years.

Even while NFTs isn’t only art, as I stated at the start of this essay, you can value Music NFTs similarly to CryptoArt and Collectibles. The more important your music is, the more valuable your community is, and the more streams you have, the more likely your song is to be sold. Web3 artists, in my opinion, will become more valuable than web2 artists tokenizing their prior work. Like streetwear, music NFTs reflect a culture, a movement that impacts and alters people’s lives. Don’t spend any more time and get started on this amazing adventure!

There are many (though only a few) methods to join involved in this new revolution. I’ve compiled a list of them below:

Get started by creating an Audius account. Although you will need a MetaMask or Phantom Wallet to get started, it is free to register and no prior web3 experience is required. Audius is similar to Spotify or Apple Music, however, it is developed differently and for everyone.

To begin minting 1/1 NFTs, create a Catalog account, set up a profile, and fill out the artist form. Being engaged in the web3 community is the best method to move up the queue. Catalog is not, as they claim, a streaming platform; it is a music library, among other things, and I’ll post a link to the thread where they clarify what Catalog is.

Sign up for sound.xyz, fill out this artist form and claim your handle.

Submit a sample to Arpeggi, the first on-chain DAW that allows producers to tokenize source files and contribute to a global library of CC0 samples. Make sure to pick up a Studio Pass after completing the form to mint your music as a Music NFT.

Apply for Royal, a platform that provides actual ownership of songs to fans via royalty-backed Music NFTs. Fill out the onboarding form and make sure to invite your friends to get ahead in line. Big things are going to happen on and with this platform in 2022.

Make a Foundation account. Even though it is not centered on music, this site, which focuses on visual work, allows you to connect with a wide community and find partners. Isn’t that fantastic?

Join SongCamp’s Discord server to meet other web3 musicians. You’ll be able to learn a lot from them, and you might even meet some new partners.

Read the reports from Water & Music. A community of researchers covering the interface of music and technology may be found here. Contribute to earn $STREAM tokens, or simply enjoy the Music NFTs scene.

Follow NFTNOW on Twitter and read their articles on their website. They’re doing an excellent job. I’ve read a lot of websites in this field, but nothing compares to nftnow.

Use Glass to mint your video. Most musicians spend a lot of money on music videos, but this time it’s possible to handle things differently.

Create a Mirror blog to make your voice heard, engage with the community, and share your knowledge and thoughts. It’s the most effective technique to communicate and interact with others.

Become a member of a Record Label DAO like Good Karma DAO. You’ll encounter a lot of new web3 artists at this event. Yes, because it is a DAO, joining this type of Record Label is fantastic. You and the community are in charge of what happens and how things are handled.

I’d want to include AU.DEO. AU.DEO “is a realm where all web3 musicians can unite, discuss, collaborate, and start their web3 journey into music and fashion together.” Digital fashion pioneers Digitalax created it. Even if you are only interested in music, I strongly advise you to attend since you will meet some amazing people and, who knows… perhaps your future designer partner. It’s well worth it! Have faith in me!

This is the last of the items on the list. These are just a few ideas for getting started with Music NFTs. I’ll offer you a thread by Coopahtroopa where he has additional examples of platforms, artists, and other things that exist in this new world of music.

Music, I believe, will continue to exist in Web2, and existing artists should be engaged in both worlds. Many individuals are unfamiliar with NFTs and don’t understand the technology or how it functions, and some don’t have the financial means to jump in and acquire music even if they wanted to. Without a doubt, the popularity of Music NFTs will skyrocket in 2022, but I don’t think web2 music will go away very soon.

I’m more determined than ever to go back into music and be fully involved, and I want to share culture, make stories, educate, and engage with as many people as possible through my songs and my streetwear label to create one of the most powerful communities that have ever existed. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead, and I’d like to bring as many of you with me as possible. I hope that my work inspires you to go out there and pursue your dreams.

Thank you for taking the time to read this! It was a delight to have you here! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to add to what I’ve mentioned in this article! I will gladly accept them! I wish you the best of luck and can’t wait to meet you on this incredible adventure!

See you next time! Have a wonderful day!
