I am a contributor of OpenDAO, mainly on community management and DAO governance.

OpenDAO started working with Project Galaxy a few weeks ago. I was one of the contributors who worked on the collab. I was excited when I first read Galaxy’s documents. It seems they have great ideas and are very ambitious. Project Galaxy aims to build a Web3 credential data network. If they succeed, there will be an open and collaborative infrastructure that helps developers and organizations to build better products and communities in Web3.

As early builders of Web3, I am sure we all have the feeling that many concepts in Web3 is no longer the same. Identity is one of them that is changing. Because access to Web3 is more permissionless, attendees in Web3 are identified not only by gender and age, but also by human/bot. In such an open space, how should we make reasonable assessment of other entities?

OpenDAO is using the tool of Campaigns of Project Galaxy. Galaxy credential-based NFT campaigns is the tool that can help communities achieve different objectives from increasing the retention of existing users to attracting new users, for example they have:

`Single/Multiple NFT Drop: Create an NFT drop campaign to distribute NFTs with a single design or multiple designs as rewards for eligible users.

`Mystery Box: NFTs can be distributed through a “Mystery Box”. Participants will receive different NFTs based on weighted rarities in each box. It helps promote community engagement and retention.

`Forging: With the forging module, existing NFT holders can forge multiple NFTs into singular NFTs that represent higher levels of contribution, the module can be used as a level-up system for NFT holders.

In order to get a better understanding of Project Galaxy and make it more useful in the community building of OpenDAO. I read many documents and articles of Project Galaxy.

With this article, I want to share my experience of learning and launching campaigns. Besides, Project Galaxy’s documents are more of introductions from the perspective of project. I want to share some tips from the perspective of users.

Hopefully, my experience will be helpful to you.

Increase Community Engagement with OAT Campaigns

OpenDAO has launched five OAT Campaigns. The campaigns turned out to be effective. OAT is a POAP like NFT. With the OAT Campaigns. We increased engagement with community. And we will use it in later AMA and twitter spaces. You can join us if you are interested.

The AMA we held together with Project Galaxy during Chinese New Year got more than 1300 attendees. You have to admit 1300 is a big number for AMA. Since it is an activity in one server, not open to all. With OAT Campaigns, all our later AMA and twitter spaces had more than 1000 attendees. From the numbers, we can see Project Galaxy is an effective infrastructure.

Galaxy OAT (On-chain Achievement Token) is a NFT digital badge standard in ERC-721. It's designed for event organizers and community managers to utilize Project Galaxy’s NFT infrastructure and on-chain credential data network to build and distribute NFT badge campaigns easily and reward their community members.

It is a platform for communities to launch NFTs as souvenirs. It is easily operated. I am not a tech guy and I can handle it.

Instruction Tips from the Perspective of Users

Project Galaxy’s instructions are more about how-to of its online dashboard. I want to share some experiences of how to use the platform. It generally involves three steps preparation work before using the platform.

Firstly, Address collection, this is the most important step.

1. Time setting

OATs are free NFTs with 0 gas fee. So there will be a lot of community members step up and ask for an OAT. Community managers should make sure the OATs reach out to the most active members. So that they are duly rewarded. It should not be open to all, because in that way, it will be worthless. To ensure that loyal members can get their OAT, community managers have to set a time, like “address collection will take place during the AMA. It will last for only 15 minutes.” That way, the ones who really joined the AMA will get their OAT. And the system won’t be flooded with bots and fake accounts. We in OpenDAO collected 1500 to 2000 addresses each time. It is healthy collection. We do reach out to community by that way.

2. How do we collect addresses

We should use tools to collect addresses.

Address collection is for filling in the “credential” section of Project Galaxy web dashboard.

No ENS is allowed in the system, so community managers should tell their community members in advance.

Address sheet with duplicate addresses cannot be uploaded. So we have to use proper tools.

We got to be clear of what purpose we want to achieve.

If we need to encourage more members to join our AMA or twitter space, we can use google form to collect addresses. We can post the forms in discord channels or pin the forms in twitter spaces.

If we want to increase twitter follower, we can use tools like gleam.io.

Secondly, preparation of OAT badge picture

We need talented community members to create pretty pfp pic or badge pic for our OATs.

Thirdly, learn to use the online platform of Project Galaxy

There are detailed instructions of the platform on Project Galaxy website. So I just share some tips here.

1. Sheet with ENS cannot be uploaded. So should let community members know in advance.

Duplicate address is not acceptable. We can use tools in google sheet to clean duplicate addresses.

2. There should be a deadline for address collection. Or there will be endless address update for community managers. That is huge burden for the community manager.

3. Better attach a list of eligible addresses in the reference part of credential sector. So people can check addresses themselves instead of floods of direct message asking if they have access.

OAT is Effective in Increasing Community Consensus

Active community will earn extra credit for a project, especially for NFT projects. Stronger consensus is the basis for NFT price. Where does consensus come from? Current crypto world is like the wild West of 19th century America. We do not have mature rules and organization. In this jungle world, incentives is always a better way to get consensus. And Project Galaxy provides an easily accessible platform to create incentives.

Understanding the philosophy of Project Galaxy

Project Galaxy wants to build the largest Web3 credential data network in the world. It consists of two parts:

Galaxy ID

Galaxy ID intends to be an ID that allows individual to build their presence in Web3 and creates an entire social element that one can share with friends, family, and colleagues - creating a Web3 “Linkedin”.

• Galaxy ID can be a universal username that will represent your multichain/multiwallet identities in Web3.
• One can display the credentials collected in the Web3 world and showcase the history of your achievements.
• As a metaverse DID (decentralized identifiers) developers can integrate Galaxy ID toolkit and offer customized features to users based on their digital credentials. This will open up a lot of possibilities while redefining the future of Web3.

Galaxy Credentials

There is this concept, digital credential, which refers to non-quantitative user behavioral data can be extracted as achievements and credentials.

Credentials represent an individuals footprint and can be recorded on the blockchain. For example:

`Provided liquidity to a protocol at an early stage

`Participated in a DAO governance

`Had a Tweet liked by Elon Musk on Twitter

`Participated in hackathon, AMA, meetups, etc

Such data is monopolized in Web2 by entities like Google and Amazon. The monopoly impairs smooth flow of data and information. Web3 is permissionless. There is no such monopoly in a permissionless world. The purpose of Project Galaxy is to create an open and interconnected world of data and credentials.

Post Identity

The term “post-identity” envisions a future in which people have moved beyond societal prejudices around race, gender, sexuality, ability, age, size, and, perhaps in the future, origin (i.e. human/machine). A fully “post-identity” environment can lead to the erasure of experiences needed to be understood to foster diversity, equality, and inclusion.

That could also be the source of anxiety. How do we know and make assessment of other members in a permissionless world? How do you know who is on the other end of the onchain world? What if it is just a bot and you have talked with it for an hour?

In the age of letter and book, we know a pen pal must be a human. In the age of internet, we don’t know for sure if the other side is male or female, but we can be sure it is a human.

In Web3, even that is not guaranteed. How to identify a person onchain?

Maybe Project Galaxy will be the answer.
