Today I wake up thinking about the word “selection”. List season is upon us and all the year end shenanigans are about to go down. This word has showed up in various places in the past few days and has me still very happy with the idea of Phlote helping fix this process. I recently found that Genius is doing a community playlist, and while this says community in it, there is still a flaw. In the write up you’ll notice that they said:

Contributors submitted three songs of their choice, and we distilled the list to 50 tracks in a playlist.”

I’m a fan of many things distilled but this still has the feel of someone choosing what others want. Seeing the process all the way through can sometimes be a little rough from an editor’s point of view. The question that surfaces this morning for me is “How are we elevating the people we are serving?”, “How are the people that come to Phlote.xyz getting better every day?”

AJ and I had a very illuminating conversation last night around tokenomics. We ran through a bunch of ideas around the topic but two words stick out to me this morning:

Dependability - If I say we are putting out a playlist that includes 1 song from each curator in the community and I need your selection by next Monday, will it happen? This year has proved that we have dependable curators that come through as long as the “ask” is clear and concise.

&

Improve - What am I doing day-to-day to help this core group of contributors get better at one specific action? I can write as many think pieces as I want but do they drive home that one specific action?

I want curators at Phlote to become more efficient at co-signing. I hear the music, I fuck with the music, I give it my stamp of approval.

My days should revolve around getting better at helping people and learning to become more concise in my “ask”. Being radically transparent with my thoughts and being able to get my point across as quickly as possible is something I’ll continue to get better at.

Should we make some Phlote wrapping paper? AJ should definitely make some FTX / MLB wrapping paper.
