web3 + music (identity)

Nike acquired a web3 brand/NFT profile picture project…

As I’ve stated in previous entries, I am completely obsessed with giving my community an identity. I think this is by far the most important area of the creator economy that is being largely ignored. I see the BAYC eventually becoming the biggest clothing/skate brand in the world, maybe I’m alone in that line of thought but I don’t believe I’m wrong. Successful NFT/pfp projects are poised to become the biggest brands of the future, they’ve reverse engineered the complicated task of building community. Adding a product will be the easy part.

Visual representation is everything, it’s why we choose to wear the clothes we wear or drive the car we drive. We’re communicating to the world around us, and as that very same world gets moved online the same principles will still apply. I guess my thesis continues to evolve, I see creatives as complete ecosystems. Designers are becoming the brands, gamers are becoming the game studio and artists are becoming the label.

I look at MrBeast as a perfect example, he went from making youtube videos in his bedroom to now creating network TV level productions and selling hamburgers world wide. He doesn’t need to partner with Mcdonalds because he is becoming Mcdonalds, I think all creators should approach their future with this same mentality. It all starts with a story, and everyone has a story.

My story was told through songs and melodies, but that doesn’t mean my community has to be completely music focused. Songs are what unite us, it’s what brought us all together. But more than that, everyone who listens to my music relates to my story. This is what I mean when I say “more than music”, the songs are simply a soundtrack to a life that we’ve all lived. It’s the subject matter that means more than anything else.

Now I just need to fill in the blanks, I believe my music is the foundation to something much bigger.

More to come…
