Both Web3 and metaverse are relatively hot buzzwords these days. In this post, I will explain NonceGeek's understanding of Web3 and throw light on the first important quality of TaiShang metaverse - Web3 quality.
NonceGeek's understanding of Web3
NonceGeek's understanding of Web3 is as follows:
- From a data perspective
web1 means that the user only gets the data - we browse the static web pages as web1.
web2 means that the user can send data in addition to getting data - we can read messages and send messages with twitter and facebook, which is web2.
web3 means that on top of web2, we also have full ownership and use of the data. We all use Metamask. DApp only has permission to call Metamask, and then Metamask informs us to sign the permission, and if we don't sign, the transaction will never be sent.
- From an application perspective
Users are able to deploy the application themselves, or use any third-party provided application, without having:
- Security concerns.
- The possibility of the application being blocked by a subject (e.g. server got shut down).
- Private data that cannot be accessed by user.
One point to note is that whether the application is purely a front-end application is not a necessary indicator of whether it is a Web3 dApp. An Android App, an IOS App, or an App with a front-end and back-end architecture can be considered a Web3 app as long as it meets the above three points.
Web3 is a necessary quality of the universe of Taishang
Metaverse is something that is inconsistently defined everywhere it is mentioned. Therefore, the metaverse that NonceGeek is discussing would only be the TaiShang metaverse, not the Facebook metaverse, the Tencent metaverse, or any other metaverse.
For the TaiShang metaverse, Web3 is a necessary attribute.
That is, the underlying data used by the TaiShang metaverse should be "on-chain data". Everyone can generate an identical "TaiShang metaverse" based on the "on-chain data" and the "on-chain data usage rules (which will also exist on the chain)".
This is crucial for the TaiShang metaverse.
The metaverse that the underlying data is private is only the "Web2 closed" metaverse, which can never get rid of Crypto enthusiastic's vision that "its ultimate purpose is to remove closure and monopoly", and can never get rid of the "sword of Damocles" that the metaverse may be controlled by one subject.
Therefore, the openness and immutability of the basic data, and the openness and certainty of the primitive world generation is the only and necessary way for the TaiShang metaverse to "prove itself".
