18 AS ABOVE

There are a myriad of illustrations on the theme of the macro being embodied entirely in the micro. Rumi teaches that “you are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.” The Dalai Lama speaks to an atom containing the universe. Numerous spiritual traditions, practices, and ideologies all contain some variation on the theme of “As above, so below.”

What does this look like in practice? It could be that we are all far too mired in the details of our daily lives to sink deeply into ourselves and discover the divine within. After all, if indeed “God created man in his own image and likeness,” (Genesis 1:27), then we embody the creator within. We are creators ourselves.

As above. So below.

A Course in Miracles teaches that we fear the power we contain, and so we bury it, hiding ourselves from it. The problem, of course, is that despite our denial of the power we carry, we still use it, generating our environments and livelihoods through the thoughts and beliefs we carry and act upon. Just because we deign to remove ourselves from the conscious recognition of our inherent divinity doesn’t mean we prevent its use and protect ourselves from its effects. We create as easily as we breathe. Many are simply unaware of it. Many choose to lie asleep to it.

As above. So below.

You create your own reality. And you do so whether you are conscious of it or not.
