Link3: A Web3 Social Application

Author: @0x长安 | @RealResearchDAO

Foreword

With the maturity of big data technology, 60% of operators in the world have begun to invest in big data, hoping to use big data to realize data asset management. Data asset management is the process of sharing data among various departments on the basis of the data asset management system. That is to say: in the era of big data, we should uphold the spirit of openness and sharing, let data circulate, and create more value.

1. The pain points Link3 is actively solving

Link3 is a verifiable Web3 social networking application built on @cyberconnectHQ. Aggregating on-chain and off-chain data through profiles enable Link3's profile page to serve as the user's overall identity. Simply put, it is an identity aggregator that aggregates the information of various website of users to form a wall of personal information.

In today's online society, because each social platform has different functions and can meet people's different social needs, people often use more than one social platform.

For example, KOLs may use TikTok to record small videos to document their life, use Twitter to publish more official and public content, and use Red to find consumer goods that satisfy them.

In the transfer of users from platform A to platform B, there will be two major problems.

1.1 Frauds caused by identity impersonation

I believe that everyone has heard about wallet thievery, which is one of the reasons why people are afraid to store a lot of assets on the blockchain. Because fraud incidents are hard to prevent, people are forced to buy cold wallets or use other tools to protect their assets.

Fraud incidents of fake identity often occur in the industry. I am sure that as long as you did not turn off private chat from strangers on Discord, you certainly receive a steady stream of fraudulent information. When you join a new community, you will often be engaged privately by robots, pretending to be a moderator to send you a whitelist reward. If you click the link and authorize your wallet, then your assets will be stolen.

And this kind of incident doesn't just happen on Discord, there are such bots all over social media. There are often fake identity bots swiping under the Twitter of many celebrities, pretending that celebrities are replying to messages, and deceiving other users to trust them. This kind of event happens on almost every social platform.

Losses from identity theft and related fraud in the U.S. increased from $1.8 billion in 2019 to $3.3 billion in 2020 and $5.8 billion in 2021, and the problem is getting worse.

Link3 centrally collects the links of each social platform of the user’s profile on the user's homepage. If fans want to follow bloggers across platforms, they only need to click to enter the Link3 homepage of the blogger, and they can easily achieve cross-platform attention.

1.2 Data silos caused by loss of relationships

When users transfer from platform A to platform B, it will inevitably lead to the loss of interpersonal relationships. Friends on the original platform cannot be brought to other platforms, resulting in heavy manual labor where users will have to add their friends and followers one by one. The non-sharing of data makes it more difficult for users to develop on other platforms. This is the data silos, and the user's data is like a silo and cannot be connected.

Data silos have always been a problem for the development team in data governance. The project team hopes to use the behavior data left in the application when users use the platform to draw a true portrait of the user from the data, and use the data to create more value. However, data governance is often a long-term process, and new platforms naturally cannot obtain users' data in other platforms. Hence, new social products can only accumulate slowly.

Data precipitation is a big problem that plagues all social media platforms. If users do not generate data, they do not spend time, thus no data precipitation.

No data precipitation means low retention of users.

Let’s recall the plants we once grew on the QQ farm and the QQ pets we raised on our desktops. Since we spent a lot of time on them, even after so many years, some of us will still not forget about them. They carry the memories of our childhood. Every time I recall them, it will drive me to those once-familiar web pages. Looking back at the virtual farms we once owned, will reflect our former selves.

A lot of social media platforms do the same thing. At the end of each year, many apps will publish an annual report of users’ data. They apply videos or slides to present the user's behavior on the platform in the past year, generating the user's behavior data into memories. By inspiring users' memories and reluctance to give up certain things in the past, they can better retain users.

When a good product provides services, it will also record the user's data and feelings, precipitate the data, analyze the data, and use the data to provide users with customized services. It is difficult for new platforms to expand the business because data is not shared, and it is naturally difficult to precipitate data. Link3 acts as a bridge between the protocols, the developers, and the data they need.

2. An Introduction to Link3

Link3, as a social media app that helps netizens identify true and false, uses information from various dimensions to establish a trustworthy social network and maintain the identity security of the network. As mentioned earlier, Link3 is a verifiable social networking application. So, how does Link3 work?

The content display of Link3 includes a collection of Web2 and Web3, integrating on-chain and off-chain data, so it can be divided into two sets of verification systems, namely the data division of web2 and web3.

Web2: Link3 is similar to traditional social media, where users can upload their personal information, such as education, work experience, etc.

The richness of verification will reduce the frauds of bots and make individuals more credible.

Web3: Users can show proof of their assets, records of on-chain activities, relationships with some on-chain protocols, etc. It is more about showing some of the users' on-chain behaviors. Link3 cooperates with Galaxy, users can show the credentials they have obtained to the public, and the dev teams can better conduct community governance from the user's different identity tags.

The information of Web2 is more like a general introduction to the basic information of individuals, while Web3 makes their portraits more vivid.

3. Product Comparison

We can find the official websites of many projects on their Twitter profiles. But if there are too many related websites (Discord, Telegram, etc.) that need to be showcased, the projects will generally choose Linktr.ee to aggregate the information. Since both Linktr.ee and Link3 belong to information aggregator websites, what is the difference between the two products?

Different user groups: Linktr.ee's user group is targeted at enterprises. It serves as the official link aggregation website of enterprises.

Link3 can not only be used by the enterprise side, but also by the users. Users can not only regard it as a summary of personal information, but also as a display of personal profiles, and the content of Link3 is more flexible and optional.

Different contents: Link3 does not just serve as a display of profiles, but also as a display of some selected Tweets, that is, Link3 has an additional news feed stream compared to Linktr.ee.

A news feed stream is a stream of information that is continuously updated and presented to the user. Users can actively subscribe and pay attention to the source of information they want to obtain. Link3 will aggregate the information and display it to users, helping users continuously obtain the latest feed content.

Different functionalities: Link3 has more use cases than Linktr.ee. Since users need to connect wallets to use Link3, it can also be a bridge between the community and the projects. The project teams can airdrop tokens as a form of communicating with their community to achieve better community governance.

4. What does Link3 mean to the public?

For development teams and enterprises, Link3 does have a certain role to help users identify the official authenticity and prevent them from being deceived. For KOLs, the role of Link3 is similar to that of the enterprise side, both to ensure identity security issues.

Link3 is more like a to-business product. However, as a social application, such functions are not very popular with the public. For users, what needs does Link meet?

Users can choose to follow and subscribe to bloggers. For example, when you follow Link3's profile, you can continue to get news from Link3. However, when users follow a large number of lists, there will be a lot of messy information every day. Even if you want to pick out valuable information from a sea of information, it will take a lot of time.

When there are a lot of important news and announcements, the general practice of the development team is to pin the important information, but even then, this kind of news is often missed by the users. For example, the mint date of an NFT project will always be forgotten when there are many projects that users have followed. Link3 allows the project team to display important tweets so that users receive high-quality information that has already been filtered.

When users follow a blogger on Link3, they can receive information from various social platforms the blogger. Users do not need to turn on different social apps every day to receive various types of information. Link3 provides a one-stop information screening feature to solve this problem.

5. Conclusion

The emergence of Link3 makes up for the lack of the identity layer on-chain, complements the identity system of the network society, allows the connection between different identities, and combines on-chain data and off-chain data.

It has made great contributions to the future development of many blockchain ecosystems, and established a bridge with guardrails between the project team and the community, providing a security barrier.

It is also an indispensable application for users. Myself, I spend a lot of time on Twitter and various news websites every day. Due to the algorithms of different social applications, many bloggers’ information is often ignored by me. A tool to help better filter the information is really helpful for me.

However, Link3 is still in its Beta version and will not be open to the public for the time being. To be eligible for the testing, you can follow their official Twitter to get an invitation code.
