The very structures of DAOs are so new that our concepts of what they are, or even could be, have yet to catch up with even a baseline of their possibilities.

The notion of a flattened system of governance is practically entirely novel to contemporary Euro-centric cultures … where does one even begin ?!?

OccupyWallStreet is about as close to popular consensus as social praxis as it gets.

(Yes there are other events from history that are shining examples of possibilities, I would not deny these … though I’m speaking of contemporary culture and memory.)

I, personally, have no idea where to begin …

But I like gardens, and I like viewing life, like a garden.

Everything has it’s place, sometimes it’s fun to mix and match, sometimes it’s detrimental; sometimes it’s beneficial. Research and experiment!

Again, as fortune would have it ecodao is a small DAO; and this provides a few advantages. The two most prominent being that it is a relatively short path to distinguishing one’s self in the community; while the community itself does not require immediate actions or outcomes. The community has yet to create a token of its own; there is not the pressure to salvage a fallen price.

There is however, the pressure to create projects and activities that are not only meaningful, but materially give back, and support those doing environmental work. And there is a lot of imagination around how these aims might be achieved, while also needing to create consistent activities by which the community can engage between drops.

It feels a fitting challenge.

Majordomo Arigato

Viewing a DAO more like a large garden, or community estate, feels appropriate.

The decentralized nature means that while not everything is connected to a central conscious, not everything is disconnected either …

In order to cross-pollinate conversations, it is necessary that disparate appendages of the organization be able to have some methods of contact with each other. And there ought to be, if not a single-source of truth, a singular source for direction and updates.

This is where the position of majordomo enters the picture … though not just to be a single source of direction, but also as the primary cross-pollinator, helping to cultivate and galvanize conversations across the community.

In possession of nothing

The majordomo serves at the pleasure of the community; they do not own any projects, nor do they have direct access to the treasury. Though regardless, their success and sustenance, depends on the success and sustainability of their charge.

In this way, the majordomo is best served by the supporting the growth of the community, while the community is best served by someone able to be communicative, honest and transparent.

There are some activities within ecodao, that I will start, which I may seek to continue independently of ecodao … and this will be ok. The objective is to create system and methodologies that can be replicated, iterated over and evolved by others!

And should someone bring any idea to our parcel of digital land, it is my duty to make sure that idea is cared for, nurtured and protected, as though it were my own. While also making sure that the contributor is respected and cared for as well. Reinforcing a deep philosophical axiom of non-attachment while holding sincere appreciation; something we could all perhaps improve.

Project Smanagement

The ideas being cultivated are more than just projects … they are living beings yearning to interact with other individual and ideas … the job is not to manage projects.

The job is to maintain, and sustain, an environment that supports these ideas and enables their interaction with each other and individuals throughout the community.

So that one need only the thought, should you wish for an apple from the orchard while picking weeds in the herb garden, for that apple to appear in your hand to take a bite. It should only take a simple message, “I’m interested,” for you to become activated within your community, upon hearing a call from across the waves.
