Life and work

Francisco Rodrigues Lobo (1575-1621) was born in the Leiria area. He attended the University of Coimbra, where he graduated in Law. He is considered one of Camões' most important disciples. He lived during the period of Philippine rule, which explains why part of his works are written in Castilian. He wrote bucolic romances, eclogues and sonnets. His work “Cortes na Aldeia” represents the beginning of the literary baroque in Portugal.

Sculptural Reading

The sculpture, although figurative, seeks, through the modeling used, a formal sobriety combined with an expressionist lightness that, in some way, can correspond to the bucolic atmosphere that surrounds much of this poet's work. The sculpture is modeled for later casting in bronze. It will be two meters high but will rest on a stone base.
