Luxury items and symbolic shapes. Hyper-temporality in the works of 1500labs

1500labs is co-founded by Debora Hirsh and Martin Gimenez Larralde, two distinct visual artists, each of whom has exhibited individually in museums and art galleries internationally. In addition, they have operated separately but also as a team, as editors of an artist-run magazine.

They developed 1500labs specifically to operate in the digital sphere related to NFTs and the metaverse. Their process involves monitoring fashion and luxury objects, selecting items, taking photos and videos, and post-producing and animating these materials to generate unique NFTs. The rapidly evolving scenario gives us the impression that the present time belongs to the past from the beginning. Therefore, we aim to visualize the transformations and question their meaning and what the following metamorphosis might be.

The works show an almost instantaneous process of rarefaction from exclusive objects to enigmatic or symbolic forms. These constant mutations materialize in various outcomes, the terrible, the inexplicable or the sublime.

Our work also aims to critique the consumption of luxury products. We photograph the products displayed in store windows. We walk along Via Montenapoleone, Via della Spiga, and Via Sant'Andrea and take pictures. We would also like to highlight the predatory nature of the consumer goods industry. In the future, we may turn to art venues because even there, the main goal is to extort money from people.

Artists have long been considered second-class citizens. Web3 causes an interruption, which is a great thing for artists. Artists are respected and receive more prestige for what they do from those collectors who have a vision and support them. Web3 is already several years ahead of the contemporary art scene. The decentralized nature of the space is progress; it creates freedom from the gallery model. This is our way of seeing the area.

Transformations of everyday objects into symbolic, mysterious, or sublime forms. Handmade unique animations are born from careful observation of desired objects compared to speculative scenarios.
