BAD OWL - What You Make It (Kinney + Kolars)

Curators have been unstoppable, bringing great music onchain each week, and now there is a new one joining the Sound community.

BAD OWL released their genesis Sound, “What You Make It (Kinney + Kolars)” as the first step toward bringing more artists on their roster into web3.

According to their Sound bio, the song was made “at some point during the pandemic,” but it’s just now seeing its life on Sound begin. “It was a reminder to us and everyone who hears it that despite everything going on, we are gonna be alright.”

About BAD OWL

BAD OWL is a Los Angeles-based collective of artists, producers, and songwriters dedicated to creating music together. The group works closely with music supervisors, providing tracks that can be found in TV/Film. This drop, “What You Make It,” will be featured in the upcoming season of the Netflix series Virgin River

The track’s duo includes Rob Kolar of Kolars and Megan Kinney, as well as producer Samuel Murphy. Their artists have some history working with web3 as well, including Megan Kinney, an artist on this track, who has worked with CHAOS by Songcamp, a Music NFT project composed of 77 songwriters. CHAOS is available to stream on Spinamp.

“After seeing the power of web3 through my experience at Songcamp, I’m so excited to witness how web3 can further support creative communities and collectives,” said Kinney.

According to their bio, they value “Music Lovers First + Music Creators Second.” We are excited about this combo in a space built for music lovers.

The song releases today and stays open for a little over four days before opening for Sound Swap.

Why Should I Care?

We believe all music should be onchain, and BAD OWL is helping to bring that vision to life by exposing their artists to web3.

With a group of artists representing a variety of musical genres, we have no doubt that more of their artists will be joining Sound soon.

We’re interested to see what other music comes from their collective in the future and the places they will take music curation on Sound.
