Chones Season 0 Ecosystem Impact

A year ago, at around 11:00 pm, Addie opened the Airbnb door to the house we would share with more friends for a week. We had sorta hung out on Telegram, but this was our first IRL.

Sometimes, while chatting in the kitchen, Addie just relaxed in tree pose, standing like a flamingo. Maybe that helps with all the ideas and insights we were jamming on together. I made poached eggs.

Within a couple months, we were finishing each other's sentences and calling it Chones.

June 20-29, 2023, Chones went to DAO Palace for incubation. We still have the handwritten notebook.

While MetaCartel did give us a grant to bootstrap Chones, no one wanted a subscription, so compensation was good feels and commission. It's been a hustle, and we've had so much fun!

We're proud of our impact on the evolving ecosystem. If you didn't know we were there, then we were doing a good job. Don't wear panties on your head. Wear them under garter straps, under a satin slip, under a chiffon skirt that swishes at your hips.

Chones Season 0 was August 1 - December 31, 2023. Here's some highlights.

Raid Brood beer at FWB Fest

Impact:

Creatives, who are curious about how Web 3 can support their art, had the opportunity to claim a Proof of Drink NFT from a QR code on the label of a beer that was made by a DAO. This is a very tangible use case that can be customized and utilized towards a variety of unique efforts and goals.

EthDenver, who commissioned the beers, Raid Brood, who brewed the beer, and Raid Guild, who built the NFT experience, received brand exposure to the influential FWB community at a multi day festival of 400 attendees.

Token Name Service (TKN) launch

Impact:

MetaCartel, MetaGame and Raid Guild communities received demos and discussions about what TKN is and how they can collaborate, especially as developers who integrate token data with their builds.

TKN received increased token airdrop claims and new members to the community who can participate in DAO governance and structuring. TKN also saw increased data contributions to the registry.

General Magic will be managing grants for TKN, helping an open source public good remain sustainable.

A General Forum on Ethereum Localism (GFEL)

Impact:

Scribe notes mostly including quotes from talks, discussions and hang outs, were collected and shared openly for the GFEL community.

Scribe notes were also used during moderation of a panel titled Ethereum Cosmolocal Coordination Experimentation. This increased engagement from speakers and attendees, so when hearing themselves quoted and referenced, they were brought into the panel discussion, which evolved into a fishbowl format.

Codex Stanford Blockchain Group, ETH PDX and Resource Finance are researching, experimenting and writing for mutual credit and localism, as well as ways for service providers to barter with each other.

Covering GFEL in their newsletter, LexDAO learned about localism and mutual credit.

ReFi DAO and Urbanika attended FWB x ETH Mexico, beginning relationships that intend to find ways to partner in the future.

d:pact during Devconnect 2023

Impact:

d:pact is a community in Istanbul that is providing education and networking for locals around decentralization. Their mission and efforts are very value aligned for the communities who's communications channels we integrated with, including MetaCartel, Giveth and LexDAO.

LexDAO, MetaCartel, Giveth and d:pact received cross pollination via communication channels, including LexDAO and MetaCartel newsletters.

d:pact community received hands on support to submit projects to both How We Connect QF rounds, giving them access to more than 4 ETH in grants.

How We Connect Media, Art and Content quadratic funding (QF) round and Public Goods QF round

Impact:

MetaCartel and Gitcoin Grants Stack were exposed to the exponentially growing Farcaster community, who otherwise had mostly not heard of either before.

MetaCartel and Gitcoin Grants Stack collaborated with Purple DAO for the first time. Conversations are continuing for future collaborations among all three organizations.

Purple DAO experienced a form of governance that proved higher engagement than their usual DAO proposal process.

23 Media, Art and Content projects, focused on How We Connect, received 2 ETH in grants from Purple DAO and MetaCartel, and $740 in grants, crowdfunded from 1,300 donations.

10 Public Goods projects, focused on How We Connect received 2 ETH in grants from Gitcoin Grants Stack, and $804 in grants, crowdfunded from 304 donations.

Public Goods projects received visibility from key players throughout Gitcoin, MetaCartel and Farcaster communities.

Farcaster projects received validation from their peers, in the form of small donations.

Anyway, here's some boring metrics things.

Season 0 ended December 31, 2023 and it's now Season 1. It seems like contract work is best for now, although we're not totally sure what Season 2 will look like.

If you forgot to put on underwear, we have a website.

Chones loves Sky; he continually gives us a chance. Thank you Sky! We hope to give you, if even a fraction, what your support has given us.
