AngelList in web3

Here is a topic that i wanna talk about: the possibility of buidling an AngelList in web3, and an ideal wish that everyone is an angel investor.

Let's start from some basic questions

What

In web2 ,AngelList started as an online introduction board for tech startups that needed seed funding. Since 2015, it allows startups to raise money from angel investors free of charge. Founded by [[Naval]]

  1. for VCs to get deal flows 2) for startups to seek early investment (from VCs)

in short it's a platform for match-making——ideas and those who can accelerate it.

Since we see the narratives change in web3, what kind of AngelList do we need here?

Here are several things i ve noticed as the narrative changes

  1. bunch of ideas pumping every day, many of them fork from original classic ones, or at least get inspired by one another. The point is there are certain relationship between projects (which is definly not a bad thing). Like my fav ones—— Loot and DopeWar, Uniswap and Sushiswap——the latter forked the former but develop vivid storylines.
  2. A project is beyond a startup/company, it's a community from the beginning
  3. the door for those who can accelerate it seems widely open, ''VCs are the only beneficiary'' is not here to stay in web3 (Ironically some DAO projects say NO THANK YOU to VC.). Those who wants to really contribute are various in background, coders, designers, marketers, content creators or pure speculators. But in common they are all liquid Hodlers.

Why

So let's get back to web2 purpose: 1) for VCs to get deal flows 2) for startups to seek early investment (from VCs), Comparably the web3 AngelList will serve for the purposes:

  1. for any angel investor/contributor to get deal flow
  2. for DAO community to seek contributors/supporters (not limit to money support but all kinds of contributions), and hopefully those contributions are in a measurable manner.
  3. for classify and curate the web3 ''ancestry graph'' (* according to Darwin's [[On the origin of species]])

How

For the above three main purposes, we need a place to

  1. List angel deals/communities

  2. a system to display individual's contribution—— onchain behavior and curation. * Enable individuals create their own contribution board * Enable projects to easily see and measure contribution (should be okie if most are onchain data)

  3. a decent classification design (i dont know that exactly it looks like but classification is the very important part here to enable relationship tracking) An ideal prototype in my head is

    - Dashboard-like

    - Onchain behavior and curation molecules

A step further about the prototype,

key words: dashboard, molecules, contribution, classification

dashboard

First of all I think it should look like a “dashboard" with different modules embedded in it. Dashboard can be categorized into

  1. community/project board, showing basic information
  2. personal board, angel investor's (aka token holder) contribution board

Molecules

molecules are identifiers for on-chain and curation behaviour(a new type of “asset“).

community/project board

图片

Functionality: Just like web2's AngelList, it shows basic information about a project: project description, development path, core team members, various social media links, token/NFT matrix or thumbnail, and null parts you can self-customize.

personal board

图片

Function: To showcase individual contributions. and enrich community/project board content, so it's more like Sub-board

As an example, say I want to make a dashboard for #doodles

  • I bought Doodles NFT and there is a field that shows Hodler
    • Proof: token ID; contract address
  • I wrote the article for Doodles and published it on mirror
    • Proof: Arwave Tx; ethereum address; content digest
  • I participated in the poll above #[[snapshot]]/#[[tally]]
    • Proof: IPFS CID
  • I made a #[[Dune]] Analytic board for
    • You can put thumbnails and links

and more...

Contribution

the Proof part of 👆 above

Classification--###

Not clear yet, just thought feature of great importance

  • be able to jump between molecules
  • uncover some affiliation (e.g.

  • present the relationship between projects, e.g. DopeWar a fork of Loot

  • present relationships between people, e.g. the initiator of a project is also a core contributor to another project

Each angel investor can come to dashboard to see the aggregated information of the different web3 projects/communities, without initially being overwhelmed between Twitter, disCOrd, telegram, website, notion...massive infosea

At the same time you can see some connections: The dynamic growth between the project/community boards and the individual boards, which reflects the power of the community around a project, rather than just the fomo fog full of white-lists.
