On a mission to create a better world for women- the message behind our brand purpose video

coto started out, as all startups do, with an all-consuming purpose. A purpose to create a better, safer world for women.

All too familiar with the struggles and hardships women face, not just in the real world, but online as well, our founders set out to do something different. To build a space where women could be and express themselves freely, and form meaningful connections with each other.

From the streets to our social media feeds, our self expression triggers oppression.

The opening lines of our video drive home the cold truth. Women don’t feel safe, and haven’t for centuries. Now, with the advent of social media, women feel more violated than ever before, with 48% of us experiencing online harassment. With our opinions continuously being shut down, the endless trolling, the threats, the invasion of our privacy - there has never been a more crucial time for an online platform where we feel safe, empowered, and liberated.

In addition to creating a safe space for women, our mission is to also give women an equal shot at value. The gender pay gap is something that is always talked about, but rarely ever acted upon. In the social media world, male creators earn 30% more than their female counterparts. It is becoming increasingly difficult for female creators to earn a decent income online.

Smaller creators rarely reap the rewards of their labours. Due to algorithms, and the ridiculous emphasis on ‘number of followers’, their content remains undiscovered, and they find it difficult to secure brand deals for themselves. And even when the brand deals come, these creators’ incomes are entirely dependent on them, with no fallback option.
