On the 3rd of this month, Samsung Electronics submitted a trademark application named “flap leather cover” to the UK Intellectual Property Organization (ukipo). The application is classified as class 9 and described as “Flip Case for mobile phone; Flip Case for Smartphone”. Based on the trademark description, this is a flip leather case for smart phones, and it should be suitable for high-end phones.

The word “flap” here seems to refer to a box that can be opened. This will mean that the front of the phone is also protected. Samsung already has a leather cover in its product line, but this leather cover only protects the back of the device.

It is still unclear which mobile phone models the flip case is suitable for. Samsung is likely to launch the flip case when new galaxy A-Series phones, such as Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A33, are released. Galaxy A13, A23, M23 and M33 were quietly released earlier this week.

It’s not hard to imagine that there will be some time before this optional accessory is officially launched. Finally, leather cover, which has been on the market, is an expensive high-end mobile phone case. If the flip case becomes an additional premium variant, it is likely to be used in more expensive mobile phone models as well.
