OUR CONVERSATION WITH TRXNT

Tell us about yourself and your work? Who is Trxnt?

I'm a street photographer from New York City. I've dabbled with photography at multiple points throughout my life but never really stuck with it or took it seriously until moving to New York, and even more so after discovering blockchains. I’ve always loved the idea of being able to capture small fragments of life and when I moved to the city it was the first time where doing that actually felt important to me. The majority of my work explores humans in urban areas and the interplays between them and their surroundings.

Tell us more about Modern Color and the idea behind the series?

Modern Color is my approach to all of my color film photography. Before all the editing software we use today, film photographers were always limited to the stock they used in terms of color so that's something I try to continue in my work. Even though I do edit my photos in Lightroom I try to keep my photos close to how I shot them, usually just increasing contrast and adding in a little saturation. The main reason for this is so that my work matches the time in which it was created — one of my favorite things about past film photography is that just by looking at the color and contrast of photos you can tell when they were taken.

Tell us more about your process and approach to shooting for Modern Color?

The shots used for modern color are from a few different series and from my personal catalog. The selection process for choosing the images was heavily focused on light and color and making sure there was enough variety for the model to take in.

How did you discover publishing your work onchain and has your relationship to publishing changed over time?

Mainly through Twitter. At the time I just started to explore Ethereum and I was seeing a lot of people sharing links to minted work and making sales. I would say it’s changed as the market and tech has changed. I started off only published my work on Ethereum Mainnet but have since published on Optimism and Solana and will most likely publish on Base sometime in the near future. I feel like it’s important to have variety in how I publish my work so it can be accessible to different types of collectors. Also, some work makes more sense in certain places than others.

What appeals to you about releasing your work on a blockchain?

Permanence, community, and monetization. Before I discovered blockchains I did not create nearly as seriously as I do now, mainly because I had no idea what to do with my work and no idea where to start in terms of monetizing it. It's been amazing to see the communities formed around blockchains, especially in photography and to be able to connect with and learn from new people.

Enter TITLES - what does having your own model custom trained on Modern Color mean to you?

It's so awesome to have a model trained on my work for a few reasons. For one, it allows me to ideate and create in ways that aren't always possible with a camera on the street while still allowing me to keep a consistent style. It also allows anyone who enjoys my style of work to create whatever they imagine. That's probably the thing I'm most excited about is to see how other people use this model and what they’ll create with it.
