Winning together informs how we approach every one of our relationships: with our users, our partners, our community, and even with our environment.

This idea is as relevant to how we treat the planet as it is to how we operate our business. With Planet Earth’s well-being, either we all win together, or we’ll have to collectively face the consequences of our actions. WAGMI doesn’t just mean we’re gonna make it — it also means we gotta.

The alignment between environmental stewardship and good business is why Eco has partnered with KlimaDAO, which is powered by a community of passionate environmentally-aware members (Klimates) driving climate action by increasing the price of carbon offsets. Polluting industries need to buy these offsets in order to release carbon into the atmosphere. The more carbon costs to emit, the more businesses transition to low-carbon technologies and engage with carbon-removal projects.

They’re developing a carbon-backed currency ($KLIMA) that aligns incentives between investors, civil society, and organizations to reward financial activism benefiting the climate. Every $KLIMA token is backed by at least one tonne of carbon avoidance or removal, and KlimaDAO has already stored more than 15 million tonnes of tokenized verified carbon credits in its treasury.

KlimaDAO removes reserve carbon credits from circulation and indefinitely locks them. Reduced supply makes remaining credits more valuable, in turn making carbon reduction projects more profitable and incentivizing further climate action.

The $KLIMA token is designed for long-term holding in order to capture the increasing value of sustainability assets and maximize the cost to polluters of emitting carbon over time. However, this creates unique (and positive) challenges for its community. Community coordination tools and incentives are predicated on free-flowing exchange; but if the native token optimizes value by long-term hodling, community participants are likely to be reticent about exchanging them with each other.

In that case, how does KlimaDAO reward its members for the time, energy, and resources necessary to grow and animate its community in the short term if its token is meant to be held over the long run? Put another way: there are myriad worthwhile activities that require coordination, as well as positive everyday DAO participation that should be recognized — but that needs to be balanced with preserving the status and desirability of a native-token reward for the biggest community value-add contributions.

That’s where Eco Points come in.

Eco is providing KlimaDAO with a grant of Eco Points to be distributed among Klimates. These Points will serve as a pro-social rewards layer, enabling KlimaDAO to reward its members, and for those members to coordinate with one another.

Members of the Eco community might be asking themselves, “How does distributing Eco Points to other DAOs benefit the existing community of Eco Points holders?” To answer that question, let’s return to our vision for Eco Points: making them the most valuable and useful rewards currency ever created. That requires fostering shared belief in their value, which, in turn, demands bringing more people into the Eco-system who will use Eco Points and believe in their value. And there are few better early Eco Point partners than KlimaDAO, since both our communities align around true financial sustainability.

To help introduce Eco Points into its community, KlimaDAO will be implementing Eco’s open-source Accountant Bot in its Discord server. Not only will this integration allow Points to be sent and received by every member of KlimaDAO’s community, but it will also enable cross-collaboration between members from Eco and KlimaDAO’s communities. Eco will also collaborate with KlimaDAO on bounties and challenges designed to support their community’s immediate coordination needs and promote ties across our members. These community building initiatives will range from creating memes that promote the ethos of KlimaDAO publicly to training community members to formally welcome new participants into the organization to exemplifying personal sustainability in everyday life.

Our partnership doesn’t just stop at using Eco Points as a coordination and reward mechanism within the KlimaDAO community and between Eco and KlimaDAO’s communities. Eco will also be stepping up to the plate to directly support KlimaDAO’s mission.

Eco will be purchasing enough $KLIMA tokens in order to immediately become a climate-positive company. This amount will be equivalent to triple Eco’s corporate carbon footprint through 2022 (to start) as well as every employee’s work-related footprint, which will be used to offset Eco’s emissions to date (and going forward) through KlimaDAO’s new on-chain carbon offset retirement product as well as to accumulate carbon credits for future offset use through $KLIMA yield.

Eco has also committed to deploying Klima Infinity, KlimaDAO’s innovative new opt-in incentive program and suite of tools, designed to empower organizations to transparently and efficiently make and keep their pledges to become and remain climate positive in the years to come.

Eco is officially an Eco-logical and climate-positive organization.

The challenges of coordinating community and unlocking the power of collective action are ubiquitous. It’s what stops positive climate action from taking place, and it’s what stops DAOs and communities from working together.

But both KlimaDAO and Eco asked, “Why?” Eco’s community coordination work is open-sourced and ready to go, while KlimaDAO’s carbon-backed currency to reward sustainability already exists. We just need to put them together to take a step towards the future we both believe in.
