6.4 Ways to Build Trust in Relationships

1. Tips & tricks

There are a few key ways to build trust:

  1. Be honest and transparent: Honesty is the foundation of trust. When we are honest with others, we demonstrate that we are reliable and trustworthy.

  2. Keep your promises: If you make a commitment, follow through on it. This helps to build trust and demonstrates that you are reliable and dependable. Underpromise and overdeliver.

  3. Communicate openly and honestly: Open and honest communication is essential for building trust. It allows others to understand our intentions and motivations, and helps to build mutual understanding and respect.

  4. Show empathy and understanding: By being empathetic and understanding, we demonstrate that we care about others and are willing to listen and support them.

  5. Be consistent: Consistency in our actions and behaviors helps to build trust, as it shows that we are reliable and dependable.

  6. Be authentic. Be Real. When you are vulnerable, people fall in love with you. Be yourself, be real. Take down your social mask. Give the right example, behavior, and standards.

  7. Meet the people. Obsessive attention to detail. Connect with people.

  8. Say please (respect) and thank you (appreciate)

  9. See yourself as a merchant of WOW. Go the extra mile to connect with people.

Building trust takes time and effort, but it is essential for any healthy relationship. It is important to remember that trust is a two-way street – we must both give and receive trust in order for it to be effective.

2. Give convidence

How do you gain the other person's trust and how do you ensure that you are not cheated? The answer is as simple as it is difficult: give confidence. Effective trust has five elements

  1. Awareness - how do you score on the trust scale (check yourself at http://happysmarts.com/scale/trust-scale)

  2. Alert to trust and mistrust - remind yourself explicitly that people can be trusted, and that one bad apple is the exception of the fruit basket. Avoid journal.

  3. Frame your mind with confidence - soak up anything centered on human goodness (objects, images, quotes, documentaries, people around you)

  4. Positive emotions (be home method, Rick Hanson)

  5. Minimize pain - the mistrust of that one bad apple doesn't outweigh the happiness you gain from being basically convinced of the good. When you get cheated, don't feel naive but be proud that you were open to the good of humanity.

3. Building trust - fair warning as you migh fall in love :-)

  1. Look at each other - be quiet for five minutes and look deeply at each other (Brain Bluetooth). Arthur Aron made people fall in love with each other in this way (https://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/11/style/modern-love-to-fall-in-love-with-anyone-do-this. html)

  2. Capitalization - share your positive events with others (and listen to those of others!)

  3. React correctly - reacting actively and constructively is the medicine against envy.

  4. Power-oriented feedback - recognizing/naming/deepening (shining eyes)

  5. Play together

4. Perhaps a bit redundant, but the don’ts:

  1. "Thinking only of ourselves: Putting our own needs and desires ahead of others' can erode trust and damage relationships. Remember, trust is a two-way street – it's important to consider the needs and feelings of others if we want to build and maintain trust."

  2. "Lying and being dishonest: Being untruthful is a surefire way to destroy trust. When we lie, we break the foundation of trust and make it difficult to rebuild."

  3. "Breaking our promises: If we make a commitment, it's important to follow through on it. If we don't, we risk losing the trust of others."

  4. "Being deceitful or untrustworthy: Engaging in dishonest or untrustworthy behavior, such as stealing or cheating, can seriously damage trust in a relationship. It's important to be honest and reliable if we want to build trust."

  5. "Being unfaithful or dishonest in a romantic relationship: Infidelity and dishonesty can be major breaches of trust that are difficult to recover from. If we want to build and maintain trust, it's important to be faithful and honest in our romantic relationships."

  6. "Being unreliable or inconsistent: Inconsistency in our actions and behaviors can lead others to question our reliability and dependability. If we want to build trust, it's important to be consistent in our actions."

  7. "Being disrespectful or lacking empathy: Disrespecting others or failing to show understanding and compassion can damage trust in a relationship. It's important to be empathetic and understanding if we want to build trust."

  8. "Engaging in risky or irresponsible behavior: Risky or irresponsible behavior can undermine trust, as it shows a lack of judgment and consideration for the well-being of others. If we want to build trust, it's important to make responsible choices."

  9. "Being unsupportive or critical: Failing to show support or constantly criticizing others can erode trust and damage relationships. If we want to build trust, it's important to be supportive and understanding."

  10. "Violating boundaries: Respect for boundaries is essential for building trust. If we violate someone's boundaries, whether intentionally or not, we risk damaging trust in the relationship."
